How long will epoxy floors last?

You may be in the market for epoxy flooring, and are curious on how long you can expect the floor to last. Hopefully this quick read will help. Epoxy flooring will last a lifetime if a few key factors are considered and followed by the contractor. The most important being the preparation of the substrate the epoxy will be applied too. Think of epoxy like a paint, when you go to paint the trim in your home you always first prep them by sanding the wood to create a ruff surface the paint can adhere to. Epoxy must be treated the same way, but instead of sandpaper the concrete floor must be prepped with diamond tooling. The tooling along with an electric or propane grinder removes whats called the cap, which is the sometimes shinny top layer of every concrete slab. Once the cap is removed the epoxy or polyuria will be able to flow into the pours of the slab creating a mechanical bond. That bond is second to only a chemical bond in strength and will last a lifetime of abuse. The second factor is the installers knowledge of the product and how it is properly installed. To insure the epoxy floor stands the test of time all chemicals must be measured and mixed correctly, temperature and humidity must be accounted for as well as application time.

If you take the time to hire experts in the epoxy flooring field and always check references you will be able to enjoy a floor that last at least as long as the concrete under it.
